idle geographical speculation

So, for the folks who've seen ep. 02, where do you think Scrublets One and Two (aka Kouga and Souma) have actually wound up?

Seeing as I don't believe we're ever told where that bloody island Saori's lairing on actually is -- though it has palm trees, so is at least nowhere near my neck of the globe lol -- that's not really helpful.

Further random bits from ep. 02:

- the mainland is so close Tatsumi's using a wee speedboat to get there? those things aren't exactly built for any distance, lol

- whereever Kouga got dropped, we almost immediately see an oryx which suggests North Africa-to-the-Middle East and broken scrubby terrain. (It looks to me most like an Arabian oryx.) Then we get a desert (well, that works with the terrain suggested by the oryx, once you roam around enough) and eventually a forest and more broken ground. Well, broken ground is good for Saints so that could be artificial even.

- note that both of the above point us away from Sanctuary, which is being in Greece and all, if I'm mapping out where deserts should belong in comparison to scrubground and forest. anyone want to confirm? X3

Sooo I'm beginning to figure that the specific Palaestra that Souma's dragging Kouga to isn't in Sanctuary at all. though I'll probably be disproved on the weekend lol

And I still can't decide where that damn island is, though I have a few idle speculations.

While I was in the shower, the best I could come up with was 'small southern Japanese island' and dropping Kouga on mainland Asia and him tromping across the continent. Which is ridiculous but would at least possibly have a desert between ~China and ~Greece.

If it's an Arabian oryx and he's on the Arabian peninsula that could give the desert, but it's the forest that's fucking me up.

But then the only forests I'm strong on in that part of the world would be the cedars in Lebanon, and dude as major forest goes that was back in the Bronze Age >.> (the cedar was bloody popular, thus why there's almost no forest left. oopsie.)

Maybe we'll see more of the trip next ep, and can plot a trail up through the Middle East and Turkey and down into Greece? Provided that's an Arabian oryx -- if it's a scimitar (unlikely, by looks) or East African oryx things get a little more messy and if it's a gemsbok my head hurts even more.

Well, yeh, we already know from the original series that there's dozens of training-grounds all over the globe. That still doesn't say where they might be right now ;3~
